Children's Religious Exploration

The Religious Exploration Committee facilitates Sunday classes (11:15 a.m.- 12 noon) for three age groups: preschool-1st grade, grades 2-5 and grades 6-9 (currently we have no students in grades 10-12). Typically we have about 5-7 kids in each group.

The preschoolers are using the "We Are Many, We Are One" curriculum. This year-long preschool curriculum offers children the grounding of a religious community and tradition, along with the freedom to discover and express their uniqueness. The underlying theme throughout is an unbiased and multicultural education, which celebrates diversity and interdependency. The elementary group is using "Holy Days & Holidays." Designed for grades 2-6, it relates the beliefs and celebrations of many religions to UU principles. The format and content are appealing to children of all ages. The adolescent group is using "How Do I Know What To Believe?" Discussion will include the Bible, God, death, people and religion. Our students have been visiting Christian churches in our area to see how other religions put the Bible into practice.

The Children’s Religious Exploration committee is a parent-led group that meets once a month. Volunteer teachers rotate the teaching of Sunday classes weekly. The Church has hired a member of the congregation to be the teacher of the jr/sr high group. As parents, we want our children to experience Unitarian-Universalist spirituality, learn about the faiths of others, respect their environment, help make the world a better place and to have FUN.

Our young people are an important part of our congregation and often participate in church work days, service projects and Sunday worship duties. We are excited about the prospect of welcoming our first minister to our community in addition to having a new building for Religious Exploration in the coming months.
